LOVING YOURSELF

Deciding to love yourself is hard but finding ways is harder. People might say that loving yourself is just easy, a walk in the park. It's not. It's not JUST waking up everyday saying 'I LOVE MYSELF', its the big and little things that you choose to do. Here are the to-do essentials to loving yourself that will lead to a better life.

YOU'RE FIRST

"In the end, the only person you can rely on is yourself" (Wayne Scholtz). Put yourself first and keep yourself first. Put your priorities before anyone else. I bet it's tiring trying to keep everyone happy, but you need to realize that you are more important than other people, realize that you need to be happy.

ACCEPT YOURSELF

This is a huge part of self-love. Everyone wants approval. We want approval from our parents, from our teachers, friends and people we don't even know. The one person that we forget, that needs to accept you is YOU. Accepting yourself means accepting your flaws, your weaknesses, your beauty, the way you look, your sexuality, the things that are good and the things you need to work on.

BE YOURSELF

This plays hand in hand with accepting yourself. We tend to do anything to fit in. Like wearing crop tops because the other girls wear them. Or buying the newest phone because the most popular guy has it. We do things to be like everyone else. DON'T. Stop being everyone else, be you. You like wearing big clothes? GO FOR IT!! You like being kind? GO FOR IT!! You like just girls or just guys or both? YOU DO YOU, BOO!! Just please remember "treat other

s the way you want to be treated."

DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF

Stop comparing yourself to other others. We are all different and unique. When you compare yourselves to others we waste time, focusing on someone when you should be focusing on yourself. If you don't feel this way, you will feel jealous, unhappy, stressed and not good enough. YOU ARE NOT THEM, AND DON'T TRY TO BE. BE YOU. Every single person has strengths. Everyone has something to offer. Instead of focusing on your flaws, focus on your greatness. You make people laugh? That is a good attribute. You're a good cook? Probably a better one than me. And after that, you'll see your strengths outweigh your weaknesses by tons.

 

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE

Negative people should never be in your life nor should you associate yourself with them. You need to keep positive people, people that want nothing but the best for you, that motivate you through anything, Have relationships that make you happy. If you do have negative people in your life, get rid of them, because if they are bringing themselves down its more likely that they will bring you down with them.

 

IT'S OK TO SAY 'NO'

 

Many times we do things that we simply don't want to do. People don't want to disappoint people so we just say yes. BUT it's alright to say 'NO'. Your friend asks you, you want to go to the mall on Sunday but you have a test the next day? SAY 'NO, I CAN'T. If he/she is your friend, he/she will understand. It's ok to say no when your girlfriend asks if you want to go to a party when you want to just stay home and relax after a hard day of school or work. It's ok to say no because you have no time. IT'S OK TO SAY NO.

DON'T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF

Mistakes happen and doing things wrong happens, it's life. Instead of putting yourself down, learn from it. Use it and learn from it so that there won't be a next. That's life every single day. It's about making errors and correcting them.

Don't get me wrong though mistakes are ok, just try not to keep making them.

BE POSITIVE

Have a positive optimistic and confident mindset. No matter what life and your mind throws at you, stay positive. Being positive leads to great things. If you have hope and positivity I bet that anyone can be successful.

DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AND BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS

 

Remember to do everything you like doing. Go to the movies, watch TV, go for a walk, go ride your skateboard, go swim. But know that it is also good to try new things. WHO KNOWS? You might actually like it.

TAKE CARE OR YOURSELF

It is ok to be yourself. It truly is but remember you also need to be healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally. 

PHYSICALLY:

  • take a shower

  • brush your teeth

  • eat vegetables

  • don't forget to eat

  • etc.

MENTALLY:

  • pay attention to NOW

  • practice patience

  • practice forgiveness

  • the past is the past

  • change what you can change

  • compliment yourself

  • etc.

EMOTIONALLY:

  • it's ok to feel all emotions

  • it's ok to cry

  • listen to music when you feel any type of way

  • write

  • draw

AIM TO BE BETTER NOT PERFECT

PERFECT is OVERRATED. Society expects that being perfect is good enough. We're told having big boobs, skinny thighs, a flat stomach is perfect. Guys told that having a six pack, a defined jawline, nice hair, a toned body is perfect. Instead of changing how we look, we change how we act. Everyday we should strive to be a better person. STRIVE to be KINDER, LOVING, WISER, BEAUTIFUL on the inside. No one is ever going to be perfect, EVER, but we can be better through being the best we can be.

CONCLUSION

I don't doubt that there are more ways. There are probably A LOT more ways. People have different methods of loving themselves, but these ones that i listed are necessary and crucial to loving yourself. Without self-love you will never reach your full potential, and will always stay in your own shadow. Everyone is capable of loving themselves, and capable of having a happy life.
